Finance Graduate

2005 intake

"Having studied Geography at university I made the decision to look for a graduate scheme in Finance but knew from the outset that a traditional accountancy-based scheme was not what I was looking for. The description I found of the Finance Graduate Programme offered by Mitchells & Butlers, with immediate responsibility, variety of roles, first-class training and support for gaining chartered qualifications, therefore captured my attention straight away.

I have now been on the graduate scheme for nearly 2 years and at no point has the scheme failed to live up to my expectations. Upon joining, we had a one week induction to the company which involved understanding the Mitchells & Bulters culture and structure, getting to know the other graduates and of course visiting a lot of pubs and restaurants! This was then followed by a 4 week pub placement, before I then started my function-specific placements.

Although all my placements have been grounded in Finance and therefore complemented my CIMA studies, they have given me exposure to a wide range of business areas not found on the typical finance graduate programmes. This has provided me with a far better understanding of the bigger picture, and how Finance fits into this.

The support I have received during my CIMA studies has surpassed my expectations. Not only do I receive full financial support for all exams, courses and revision courses but I am also given time off around exams to ensure that work commitments do not interfere with my revision.

In all honesty I couldn’t recommend this company and its Corporate Graduate Programme enough, even more so when I think about the types of jobs I could have been doing in the finance departments of other companies!

The placements I have completed over the course of the two years have been challenging but at the same time enjoyable and rewarding and have given me an excellent grounding in finance and business in general, which I believe I would have struggled to gain elsewhere."
